Abstract

Mössbauer parameters such as isomer shift, quadrupole splitting, internal magnetic field, and line-width show marked variation during the thermal conversion of paramagnetic β-FeOOH to antiferromagnetic α-Fe2O3. The quadrupole splitting and the line-width show significant changes accompanying the decomposition of paramagnetic (Cr0.8Fe0.2)(OH)3 to paramagnetic (Cr0.8Fe0.2)2O3. The line-width progressively decreases with the growth of the crystallites of the oxides in both the systems.
