Abstract

A simple method is proposed for an approximate quantification of the impulse pressure intensity produced during asymmetric oscillations or collapse of a vapour cavity at a certain distance from an ultrasonic horn. The effects of different physical properties, e.g. vapour pressure, temperature, salinity and degassing, on acoustic cavitation are discussed.
