Abstract

The end point of the inner-bremsstrahlung spectrum in the electron-capture decay of 55Fe was measured with a high-resolution (2.4 keV at 511 keV) Ge(Li) detector. The measured value of (218±3) keV represents considerable improvement in precision over the earlier scintillation-counter value of (220±10) keV. The resulting decay energy of (224.5±3) keV is comparable in precision to the 55Mn(p, n) 55Fe reaction value of (231±2) keV.
