Abstract

Various theories developed in recent years to understand the nuclear structure of low-lying excited states of odd-mass nuclei and other proposed interactions are briefly mentioned. An attempt, based on the experimental and single-particle transition probabilities, has been made to derive further information about these states. The analysis of l-allowed and l-forbidden transitions between these low-lying states brings out a new feature of retardation in l-allowed transitions. These retardations give some evidence of configuration mixing or other possible interactions in the pure single-particle shell model states.
