Abstract

Anionic haloperoxychromates with tetraphenylarsonium, tetraphenylphosphonium, 2:3:5-triphenyltetrazolium and cetylpyridinium cations have been prepared and studied by i.r. and thermal methods. All these compounds undergo thermal decomposition by the selective removal of peroxy oxygen without the reduction of chromium(VI). Adducts with bases like 2:2'-dipyridyl, however, undergo decomposition with the simultaneous removal of peroxy oxygen and reduction of chromium to the trivalent state. The apparent activation energy values for the decomposition of peroxy groups in the ion association derivatives are calculated.
