Abstract

The magnetic anisotropy of rhombic sulphur has been determined. The magne-crystallic data are in general agreement with the results of X-ray analysis and support the idea of a puckered ring-shaped molecule consisting of 8 atoms, orientated with the plane parallel to the c-axis of the crystal. The magnetic data, however, give the inclination of the plane of the ring to the a-axis to be about 70° instead of 50° as suggested by X-ray analysis.
