Abstract

A new method has been described for controlling the rate of formation of drops in the drop-weight method for the determination of surface tension and interfacial tension with mercury as one of the phases. Interfacial tension of mercury has been measured in systems containing (a) hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide in carbon, tetrachloride solution, (b) sulphur in carbon tetrachloride solution, (c) potassium mercuric iodide in aqueous solution, and (d) potassium mercuric cyanide in aqueous solution. Certain interesting features of the results obtained, are discussed.
