Abstract

The kinetics of exchange in Al(EDTA) with different cations like Fe3+, Co2+ and Ni2+ has been studied by measuring the optical absorbance of the system using a Beckman DU Spectrophotometer. The reactions follow first order kinetics. The energy of activation for the different systems is the same and is equal to 12.5±0.5 kcal/mole. The mechanism of the exchange reactions is discussed. Evidence supporting the dimeric nature of Al (EDTA) has also been discussed.
