Abstract

The observed impairment in normal creatine and nicotinamide metabolism in folic-acid deficiency, and its partial restoration by administered methanol or formate, suggest that a function of folic acid is to check the drain of methyl compounds to formate. The possibility that folic acid may also catalyse the synthesis of methyl compounds from precursors has now been examined.
