Abstract

Densities of five even-numbered alkan-1-oic acids: octanoic acid (caprylic), decanoic acid (capric), dodecanoic acid (lauric), tetradecanoic acid (myristic), and hexadecanoic acid (palmitic), in the liquid state have been measured with a vibrating-tube densimeter at temperatures from 343.15 K to 373.15 K and at pressures up to 9 MPa. Molar volumes (derived from the densities) have been fitted to polynomials as a function of temperature and pressure. The results have also been compared with literature values.
