Abstract

The effect of strong pion-hyperon interactions on π0 → 2γ decay and π-π interaction, both of which are "closed loop" processes, is examined. It is found that while the interaction of pions with hyperons helps to reduce the decay rate of π0, it leads to an unreasonably strong π-π attraction. To reduce the attraction it is suggested that either the meson-meson divergence should not be renormalized or π-K interactions of the Yukawa type should be invoked.
