Abstract

Electrophoretic patterns of soluble proteins and enzymes during development from dry seed to first leaf were studied in wheat by means of disc electrophoresis. The patterns considered were those of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), peroxidase, and nonspecific esterases. Multiple forms (isoenzymes) were found for all these enzymes in dry seeds. The ADH pattern did not change during development. Esterases and peroxidase patterns changed both qualitatively and quantitatively. Increase in the number of peroxidase bands was marked.
