Abstract

The existence of physiologic races in Piricularia oryzae Cav., the causal fungus of blast disease, has been established in India. Sixteen races and three biotypes were distinguished out of 19 isolates tested. Three of the races correspond to races 8, 16 and 25 of the U.S.A. Varieties like BJ. 1, Zenith, Norin-22, Te-tep and Tadukan have proved resistant to all the Indian races of Piricularia oryzae.
