Abstract

Magnetization measurements have been made on various annealed and cold worked niobium and vanadium specimens in the superconducting state. The microstructure of these specimens was studied by transmission electron microscopy. The observed variation in magnetization has been correlated with the dislocation configuration present in the material. The results are explained on the assumption that flux lines are trapped by an interaction with dislocation tangles, the interaction arising through a local reduction in the range of coherence.
