Abstract

The concepts presented in Part II of this series of papers have been used to develop , alternative formulas for predicting the linear density, maturity fineness, and maturity ratio of cotton fibers from measurements obtained with the IIC Shirley fineness maturity tester. These formulas use only two constants and offer as good an agreement with the experimental data as the standard IIC formulas for this instrument. The verifications were done using a data bank furnished by the International Institute for Cotton. The results are discussed in detail and suggestions made for further experimental work toward improving the prediction of cotton fiber properties from airflow measurements.
