Abstract

The Mossbauer spectra of FeCr2O4 and GeFe2O4 have been studied. The experimental results show that (i) in FeCr2O4, the tetrahedral site symmetry is non-cubic at room temperature, even though the bulk symmetry is cubic, (ii) there is a strong non-cubic field at the B sites of the spinel structure, (iii) Fe2+ ion in GeFe2O4 is less covalent than in FeCr2O4.
