Abstract

We consider two simple examples of PT symmetric non-Hermitian Hamiltonians H(λ)=H0+iλxn (n=1,3), H0 being the harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian. Analytical and numerical estimates in finite-dimensional subspaces of the Hilbert space spanned by eigenfunctions of H0 establish the existence of thresholds for λ(λc) only below which the spectrum of H(λ) is real. We also investigate the dynamics of evolution generated by H(λ<λc) and H(λ>λc) in finite-dimensional subspaces looking for typical signatures of PT symmetry on the dynamics.
