Abstract

The 3-penten-2-ol derivative of germanium Ge [OCH(CH3)CH=CHCH3]4 has been synthesized by the reaction of germanium tetrachloride with the alcohol using ammonia as hydrogen chloride acceptor. Similar derivatives of boron, aluminium, titanium, niobium, tantalum and butyltin have been synthesized by the alcohol interchange reactions of the corresponding metal alkoxides (ethoxide or isopropoxide) with 3-penten-2-ol in the appropriate molar ratio. The new compounds have been characterized by metal analyses, molecular weights, IR and PMR spectral studies.
