Abstract

Soluble alkoxy soaps of chromium(III) with general formulae Cr (OR)2 (OOCR'), Cr(OR)(OOCR')2 and Cr(OOCR')3 where R =CH3, C2H5 and R' =C7H15, C13H27, C15H31 and C21H43 have been synthesized by the reactions of chromium (III) alkoxides in benzene with the fatty acids in the required stoichiometric ratios. Molecular weights of the above compounds in refluxing benzene indicate their polymeric, dimeric and monomeric forms respectively. Attempts have been made to elucidate details of their structures by evaluation of their infrared and electronic visible spectra.
