Abstract

Primary alkenyl esters of arsenous acid have been synthesized by heating a mixture of arsenic (III) oxide and alkenol in benzene. We have previously shown that arsenic and antimony esters of primary, secondary and tertiary alkenols could be prepared by ester exchange. These esters could also be prepared by direct interaction of arsenic or antimony trichloride and alkenol in the presence of dry ammonia as hydrogen chloride acceptor. Out of the compounds so synthesized, ten alkenyl esters of the formula M(OR)3 [where, m = As and Sb; R = -CH2C(CH3)=CH2, -CH2CH2CH= CH2, -CH2CH2CH2CH=CH2, -CH(CH3)CH2CH=CH, -C(CH3)(C2H5) CH=CH2] are being reported for the first time. All the compounds have been characterized by elemental analyses (As and Sb), molecular weight determinations and ir and pmr spectral studies.CH, -CHCHCHCH=CH, -CH(CH)CHCH=CH, -C(CH)(CH) CH=CH] are being reported for the first time.
