Abstract

The reaction of salicylaldehyde with ethyl, isopropyl and tert.-butyl ortho-titanates and titanium tetrachloride has been found to yield disalicylaldehyde derivatives by straightforward exothermic reactions. The ethyl and isopropyl products have been shown to undergo an intramolecular Meerwein-Pondorf type of oxidation reaction.
