Abstract

Copper(II) bis(dizirconium-ennea-isopropoxide), [Cu{Zr2(OPri)9}2], has been synthesized by the interaction of CuCl2 with K{Zr2OPri9} in a 1:2 molar ratio. The compound undergoes exchange reactions with alcohols of varying steric bulk to yield products of the composition, [Cu{Zr2(OR)9}2] (where R = Me, Et, Prn, Bun, Bui and Bus); [Cu{Zr2(OPri)6(OEt)3} 2]; [Cu{Zr2(OPri)6(OBus) 3}2]; [Cu{Zr2(OPri)3 (OBus6}2];[Cu{Zr2OPri)7 (OBut)2}2]; [Cu{Zr2(OPri)3(OBut)6}2]; and [Cu{Zr2(OPri)4(OAmt) 5}2]. These derivatives have been characterized by IR, electronic and ESR studies as well as by magnetic susceptibility and molecular weight determinations.
