Abstract

Reactions of tin tetraacetate and tetraproprionate with β-diketones [acetylacetone, benzoyl acetone and dibenzoylmethane] have been carried out in different stoichiometric ratios in refluxing toluene or chloroform. Mono-β-diketonate tricarboxylate and di-β-diketonate dicarboxylate derivatives of tin have been isolated as stable monomeric compounds. The latter derivatives are the final products, even when β-diketone is in excess. The acetate and propionate groups in these mixed β-diketonate carboxylate derivatives are easily replaced by thiobenzoate and thioacetate groups.
