Synthesis and characterization of some heterobimetallic isopropoxides of lanthanum with zirconium

Abstract

Seven heterobimetallic isopropoxide derivatives of lanthanum have been synthesized by the reaction of LaCl₃·3PrⁱOH with K0₂(OPrⁱ)₉ in different molar ratios (1:1, 1:2, 1:3) to yield hydrocarbon-soluble derivatives of the types [Cl_3-nLa{Zr₂(OPrⁱ)₉}_n] (n = 1, 2 or 3). The reactions of the above bimetallic chloride isopropoxides with the appropriate potassium alkoxides yield derivatives of the types [(OR)_3-n La{Zr₂(OPrⁱ)₉} _n] (n = 1 or 2; R = Prⁱ and Bu^t). All these have been characterized by elemental analyses and spectroscopic (IR and NMR) studies.
