Abstract

The diamagnetic susceptibilities of samples of selenium powdered to different degrees of fineness have been measured with a magnetic balance of the Wilson type. The diamagnetism of the samples decreases as the fineness of the powdering is increased, and at a certain stage the sample becomes para magnetic. The paramagnetic value increases on further powdering. Further, the colloidal selenium has been found to be more paramagnetic than any of the powdered samples.
