Abstract

Reaction of n̲-butyltin dihydroxy chloride, n-BuSn(OH)2Cl, with the phosphinic acids, R2P(O)OH [R = C6H11, But, and Ph], affords the novel chloro(oxo) tin clusters, [{n̲-BuSn(OH).O2P(C6H11)2}3O] [{n̲-BuSnCl2O2P(C6H11) 2}2OH] (1), [(n̲-BuSn(O)O2PBut2) (n̲-BuSn(OH)2O2PBut2)]2[H][Cl][n̲-BuSnCl(OH)(O2PBut2)]2 (2), and [{n̲-BuSnCl2 (O2PPh2)}{n̲-BuSn(OH) (O2PPh2)2}]2.2CH2Cl2 (3), respectively. The Sn-O skeleton in 1-3, as revealed by X-ray crystallography, contains 4, 6 and/or 8 membered rings. The 119Sn NMR spectra in benzene-d6 are consistent with the structures observed in the solid state.
