Abstract

Axial ratios of palmitoyl, myristoyl, lauroyl, caprinyl and caproyl methyl ethyl celluloses have been measured by viscometric method using Simha's equation. A theoretical analysis from the geometry of the molecules using Mark and Badgley's method shows that agreement between calculated and experimental length and breadth values could only be obtained if it is assumed that acyl substituents all lie on the same side of the cellulose chain.
