Abstract

Three non-oxo bis-chelated complexes of vanadium(IV) with the Schiff base N-(2-hydroxyphenyl)salicylideneamine and its substituted derivatives were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity measurements, magnetic and spectral data. Cyclic voltammetric experiments in DMF solution at a glassy-carbon working electrode reveal nearly reversible VIV/VIII (-0.07 to -0.12 V vs S.C.E.) and VIII/VII (-1.77 to -1.80 V vs S.C.E.). The corresponding vanadium(III) species has been generated by chemical/electrochemical reduction of the vanadium(IV) complexes and characterized by their absorption spectra and cyclic voltammetry.
