Abstract

Irradiation of BaSO4, in the presence of 1,2-dichloroethane, dissociates 1,2-dichloroethane. Vinylchloride and HCl were formed at low fluence; at high fluence, acetylene was also formed. The decomposition was studied as a function of various parameters. The kinetics deduced and the reaction are attributed to the cooperative vibrational-energy pooling.
