Abstract

Electrons are produced by photoionization of a probe molecule phenothiazine (PTH) in aqueous micellar solutions of Triton X-100 by excitation with 355 nm, 35 ps laser pulses. Transient absorption signals following the laser pulses show the presence of singlet, triplet and cation radical of PTH and solvated electrons in both aqueous phase and micellar palisade layer. Computer simulations are carried out to separate the overlapping spectra, estimate the solvation time of the electrons in both the phases, and the time required for the electron solvated in the palisade layer to diffuse out to the bulk aqueous phase.
