Abstract

The transient optical absorption bands (λ max = 290, 475 nm) formed on the reactions of OH radicals in an acidic aqueous solution of chlorobenzene are assigned to the solute radical cation. It decays (475 nm) by first-order kinetics with k = 1.8 × 104s-1. The extinction coefficient (475 nm) is determined to be 7.87 × 103dm3mol-1cm-1.
