Abstract

The transport and stopping of energetic electrons in a dense plasma medium is a crucial issue in the fast ignition (FI) concept of laser fusion. In this Letter nonlinear three-dimensional simulations of current shear driven electron-magnetohydrodynamics (EMHD) fluid instabilities have been presented. It is shown that these electromagnetic instabilities have a strong influence on the transport and stopping of inward directed energetic electrons. The implications of these results to the fast ignition concept of laser fusion are also discussed.
