Abstract

The effective potential function of molten GaAs is derived from experimental neutron diffraction data. From the second and third derivatives of the derived potential function the Gruneisen constant is calculated. As an interconsistent check the first derivative of the potential function is utilized to calculate the pressure of the fluid. The energy of vibration is computed from Debye's equation. The calculated pressure, experimental volume, and Debye vibrational energy are then used to evaluate the Gruneisen constants. The results calculated by these two methods are found to be similar.
