Abstract

Experimental investigations on liquid germanium show a small subsidiary shoulder in the main peak of the structure factor S(k) near the melting point. Through Lebowitz's solution of hard sphere mixtures the structure factors are treated theoretically investigated. Experiments and molecular dynamic studies conclusively point out that the liquid structure arises from the interplay of two characteristic distances and these are figuratively treated as different diameters. The present theoretical results are in good agreement with those obtained by other methods in the whole range of momentum space. The isothermal compressibilities are calculated by using Kirkwood-Buff's equation.
