Abstract

In the flash photolysis of selenophene, two groups of transient absorption bands are observed in the UV. One is the B3Σ-u-X3Σ-g system of the Se2 molecule, bands involving vibrational levels with U° = 0 to 3; the other is similar to the transient absorption spectrum observed in the flash photolysis of thiophene reported earlier, i.e., an electronic system with the origin band at 23903 cm-1 and six excited state fundamentals.
