Abstract

An anomalously large decrease in thickness on photoexposure has been observed in obliquely deposited amorphous Se-Ge films. The magnitude of this photocontraction effect is dependent on the composition of the film, angle of deposition (obliqueness), annealing and exposure kinetics and temperature of deposition of the film. The observed photocontraction is attributed to changes in surface topography arising from electronically induced structural rearrangements and changes in defect state configuration associated with dangling bonds.
