Abstract

The presence of the enzyme glucosamine-6-phosphate acetylase which synthesizes N-acetylglucosamine 6-phosphate from glucosamine 6-phosphate and acetyl-coenzyme A has been established in brain. The enzyme has been purified 75-fold from sheep brain. The enzyme has an optimum pH at 7.4. Free sulfhydryl groups and EDTA activated the enzyme. Km value for glucosamine 6-phosphate is 4.5.10-4M and for acetyl-coenzyme A is 2.5.10-4M.
