Abstract

The turbulent pipe flow reactor analysis of Randhava and Wasan is shown to be in error. An alternative axial dispersion model estimation is provided where the axial dispersion coefficient has been evaluated from a Taylor dispersion analysis. The present work shows that the departure of a turbulent flow reactor from plug flow is likely to be negligible except for rapid gas phase reactions. The influence of non-linear kinetics, non-Newtonian flow behaviour and coiling is assessed.
