Abstract

The tolerance analysis problem is formulated as a non-linear integer programming problem. A Beta type penalty function corresponding to discrete variables has been used in the formulation. The resultant problem is then solved with the help of modified Newton method. The advantage of this formulation lies in its requiring fewer variables than in any other formulation available in the literature. Also the discretized decision variables are obtained within a few iterations. The method described in this paper is thus simple and quick in solving the complex problem of tolerancing in electric networks.
