Abstract

We point out the close analogy between the canonical equations of motion for molecular systems consisting of electrons and nuclei interacting with an electromagnetic field discussed recently by Yang and Hirschfelder and the equations of motion for spin systems in condensed matter physics. Specifically, we treat the Heisenberg ferrmagnetic spin chain and discuss the close connection with the equations derived for a Breit-Pauli Hamiltonian.
