Abstract

During the gel growth of calcite crystals in test tubes, for a narrow concentration of inner and outer electrolytes we observed rhythmic crystallization of calcium carbonate. In this paper the effect of adding impurities on the pattern of periodic crystallization of calcium carbonate has been presented. The addition of impurities either increases or decreases the solubility of reaction product and hence may affect the rate of nucleation of calcium carbonate crystals. The variation of spacing coefficient and velocity constant due to the addition of impurities has also been studied.
