Abstract

The charge neutrality of the composite fermion quasiparticles and quasiholes at ν=1/2 is suggested by a recent semiclassical description of Read. We bring out some nontrivial consequence of this picture such as a simple explanation for the effective mass divergence as ν →1/2 and also a BCS type of instability at low temperature leading to a "neutral" superfluid state.
