Abstract

The rates of production of 24Na and 28Mg in argon exposed to cosmic rays at geomagnetic latitude 41° N and 750 g cm-2 atmospheric depth have been measured to be (2.9 ± 0.3) × 10-2 and (1.2 ± 0.6) × 10-2 atoms per kg argon per min respectively. Using the data available for altitude and latitude dependence for cosmic ray production of isotopes, their average production rate in the atmosphere is calculated.
