Abstract

A mean field type theory is developed for the insulating RVB state and high temperature superconductivity in doped La2CuO4 and other high-Tc oxides. The Tc as a function of the doping parameter δ drops sharply around r/U ≈ δ. The zero temperature gap versus Tc relation depends sensitively on the choice of the parameters. Gutzwiller projection, suppression of Tc by phase fluctuations for small δ and screening effects are briefly discussed.
