Abstract

The blue-green algae Anacystis nidulans and Anabaena doliolum can grow in concentrations of hydroxyurea and nalidixic acid that are highly toxic to bacteria and certain other organisms. These drugs apparently do not seem to be mutagenic in cyanophyta. Treatment with hydroxyurea leads to the production of dense yellow mucilage in Anabaena doliolum.
