Abstract

The oxidation behaviour of amorphous and in-situ crystallized Ni81Cr15B4 metallic glass samples at room temperature has been investigated using X-ray and ultra-violet photoelectron spectroscopies. Native oxide on the amorphous samples has also been studied for the sake of comparison. There are small differences in the initial oxidation of amorphous and crystallized samples. The differences reduce substantially at higher exposures and the oxidation appears to be substrate structure independent at ~103 L exposure as perceived by photoemission experiments.
