Abstract

The rheology of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)/alkanol/water solutions under different shear conditions has been investigated using a Ferranti-Shirley rheometer. The shear viscosity varies depending on whether the system belongs to the L2 or the L2/D region. The flow behavior of samples within the L2 or L2/D regions also varies significantly with composition and exhibits interesting phase transitions under shearing. The temperature and the [alkanol]/[SDS] molar ratio have considerable influences on the rheology of surfactant self-assemblies.
