Abstract

Nonlinear systems exhibiting chaotic dynamics are sensitive to initial conditions and variations in the values of the system parameters. These features may be utilized to alter the process conversion/selectivity behavior. An operational strategy which envisages partitioning a CSTR exhibiting chaotic dynamics is proposed for improving the process performance. In an attempt to validate the suggestion, simulation studies have been carried out and show the possible improvements for a nonisothermal consecutive reaction and for parallel and consecutive autocatalytic reactions.
