Abstract

The 1:1 donor-acceptor complexes of 2,4-dinitrophenol and m-chloro CCP with different solvents such as dimethylsulphoxide, dimethylformamide, ethanol, methanol and acetonitrile have been studied spectrophotometrically in carbon tetrachloride solution. The equilibrium constants of these complexes have been estimated from the analysis of the spectral changes using different concentrations of the solvents. The strength of the solvents is in the order dimethylsulphoxide > dimethylformamide > ethanol > methanol > acetonitrile. A linear relationship is found between the position of the absorption band of these complexes and the ionization potential of the solvents.
