Abstract

The effect of the shell structure of the single-particle levels on energy damping due to nucleon exchange processes in deep-inelastic heavy-ion collisions is investigated. From a study in different closed- and open-shell nuclei, it is inferred that the shell structure does not play a significant role in the experimentally-observed energy loss per nucleon transfer.
